HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Water Resources Subcommittee - 5/28/2008 MEETING SUMMARY THE ORO VALLEY WATER UTILITY COMMISSION RENEWABLE WATER RESOURCES SUBCOMMITTEE MAY 28,2008 ORO VALLEY WATER UTILITY CONFERENCE ROOM 11000 N.LA CANADA DRIVE ORO VALLEY,ARIZONA CALL TO ORDER—Chair Hoffman called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Attendance: John Hoffman—Chair Dave Powell—Commissioner Philip Saletta—Water Utility Director David Ruiz—Water Utility Engineering&Planning Manager CALL TO AUDIENCE—No one in the audience wished to speak. ITEM#1 WATER RESOURCE PLANNING Chair Hoffman asked Mr. Saletta to discuss water resource planning efforts. Mr. Saletta opened with the Water Uses and Sources of Supply graph and discussed the relationship of existing and future water needs. All sources of water supply available to Oro Valley were discussed which included groundwater,reclaimed water and CAP Water. There was also discussion on the projected water use required to meet existing and future demands. There was discussion regarding the requirements under our Assured Water Supply Designation and that it must be renewed in 2010. Central Arizona Groundwater Replenishment District obligations were discussed and that this is an increasing obligation. It was discussed that we have Long Term Groundwater Storage Credits that can be applied to recovery wells to partially reduce our CAGRD obligations. This was an informational item,no actions were taken and no recommendations to the Water Utility Commission were made. ITEM#2 CENTRAL ARIZONA PROJECT WATER DEVELOPMENT PLAN Chair Hoffman asked Mr. Saletta and Mr. Ruiz to discuss plans for the development of CAP water. Mr. Saletta gave a project overview and discussed that the Colorado River is approximately 125%of normal snowpack. Mr. Ruiz and Mr. Saletta discussed the possible pipeline alignments and cost estimates. A table of costs were handed out that defined the options for pipe size,treatment options and concentrate management options. This information was included in the Alternatives Review and Cost Estimate Study completed by Carollo Engineers. Land issues in the area of the proposed NW Reliability reservoir were discussed indicating that land would be needed for the reservoir. Land would also be need for treatment facilities. The Northwest Water Providers have been working with the U.S.Bureau of Reclamation on reliability for Southern Arizona. This was an informational item,no action was taken and no recommendations to the Water Utility Commission were made. CALL TO AUDIENCE—There were no members of the audience in attendance. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS— Public participation and a report on the SSF/RO Study will be placed on the next agenda. NEXT MEETING— There was no date set for the next meeting.
