HomeMy WebLinkAboutHistorical Records - Miscellaneous (42) 24 July, 1974 OPEN LETTER TO: CITIZENS OF T h ORO V ALL EY TOWNSHIP AREA FROM: COhY ITTEE FOR GOOD GOVERNMENT AT RSA r ONABLE COST August 14th, 1974 is election day. This is your opportunity, once and for all, to re 'ect the small power hungry clique which has imposed an un- relcore, .rrat al and expensive Incorporated township upon an unwilling and diverse group of communities. The majority of the citizens in these commun- ities - citizens who not only question the motives of that clique but also the competence of its members to lead = would prefer to be left alone and object-t6 bankrolling their mistake. (Best estimates indicate that the expense of running the town will exceed income by $38,000.00 the first year of operations even with the new business priviledge tax that has been imposed on the country club and construction industry.) As of this writing, this committee has collected 386 signatures on the petition for disincorporation - a clear majority but not two-thirds of the registered voters. 4e now have an accurate count of registered voters in the area (612) and know that we need only 22 more signatures to satisfy the 2/3s requirement for disincorporation. de will try to obtain these and file the petition prior to the election to save that expense. However, our sup porters must understand that, at this point, each additional signature is more difficult to obtain than the last and we may not have the required number prior to the election. For that reason, it is essential that we, the majority, have a good showing at the polls. If we win control of the Town Council, the clique will not have the, poer it seeks and many neutrals and several pro-incorporators have indicated that, in this event, they will sign the petition for disincorporation. It would seem then, that if we win the election, the disincorporation issue will be settled. The Committee for Good Government at Reasonable Cost endorses the following candidates; Robert E. Hanson Paul J. Sherrick Dorothy V. Montgomery Orville N. Shields Virgil B. Brandon These are disincorporation candidates. A vote for them is a vote for fiscal sanity, a vote for a reduction in the cost of government and a vote for a return to the reasonably competent administration of public services.
