WEST WASHINGTON S'I'. • PIIoI:NIX AEIZONA. 85007 • PH. (602) 258-5786 <P> February 15, 1974 Mr. J. D. Kriegh 40 East Calle Concordia Tucson, Arizona 85704 Dear Mr. Kriegh: This is in response to your request for estimates of expected revenues for the Town of Oro Valley upon its incorporation. There were two methods used for the computation of the figures presented in this letter. The per capita figure for State revenue sharing funds is a standard figure used by the Arizona State Tax Commission for fiscal 1973-74. All other figures presented have been computed from actual 1972-73 revenues reported by the City of Tucson and the Town of South Tucson in their 1973-74 budgets. An accurate computation of expected Federal revenue sharing funds is nearly impossible, since these funds are distributed on the basis of (1) population, (2) tax effort, and (3) relative income of residents in the community. Thus, it would take a comprehensive profile of the Oro Valley community to make an accurate estimate of Federal revenue sharing funds. Lastly, the figures are based upon the population estimate you provided of 1,000 people. ESTIMATED REVENUES Per Capita Total Vehicle License Tax $ 5. 66 $ 5,660. 00 Arterial Gas Tax 6. 02 6,020.00 Regular Gasoline Tax 3. 82 3,820. 00 State Sales Tax 25. 50 25,500. 00 State Revenue Sharing 13.40 13,400.00 Federal Revenue Sharing Data Not Available Total estimated revenues for the Town of Oro Valley: $54,400.00 MEMBER "WESTERN CITY" NATIONAL LEAGUE OF CITIES OFFICIAL, PUBLICATION A • Mr. J. D. Kriegh Page 2 February 15, 1974 In addition to these estimated revenues, you inquired about the cost incurred by a municipality in contracting with a county for police services. In researching this question, it was found that these costs vary significantly from one contractual arrangement to the next. Costs are dependent upon the type of service needed, the size of the municipality, and the county with which the municipality is contracting. Taking all these variables into consideration, it would be impossible to provide an accurate estimate of the costs of police services for your community. We hope this information will prove helpful.
