HomeMy WebLinkAboutHistorical Records - Miscellaneous (45) The Town of Oro Valley NEWS LETTER The Town of Oro Valley is Incorporated: The question is who do you want to govern your Town? Do you want to keep the area in which you live as ideal as possible, or do you want hodgepodge growth and development? Do you want those who don't live here to tell you what's good for you, or do you want to have the control? Do you want a government controlling you that loses $1,000,000 as the County has done; one that loses $47,000 as the disincorporation majority of the Town Council has done? Do you want to be eventually annexed to the City of Tucson? Do you want people to govern your Town who would not even help to protect you from environmental changes such as when the County recently tried to install open raw sewage ponds in the area? PUT INTO OFFICE ONE MORE CANDIDATE WHO OPPOSES THE TOWN AND YOU WILL HAVE A TOWN COUNCIL MAJORITY WHICH WILL GIVE YOU ALL THE THINGS YOU DON'T WANT PRIMARY VOTE INDECISIVE * DIS INCOR PORATORS LOSE SUPPORT In the August 14 Primary Election 519 * Virgil Brandon, outspoken Town critic people cast the following ballots. * claimed he had 391 people favoring * disincorporation. TOWN FORFEITS $47,000 but THE TOWN OF ORO VALLEY REMAINS FINANCIALLY SOUND Why did the Pima County Board of Supervisors fight our incorporation in and out of the courts? They do not want to lose control over any area. Why did they delay the act of incorporating us when ordered to do so by the courts? Why did they appoint a Town council with a majority dedicated to destroying the Town? What are the real reasons the Town council majority (those opposing incorporation) delayed the selection of a Town attorney? Why did this majority refuse to chose the Attorney who was already prepared to apply for a special census to be taken before July 1? WHY? WHATEVER THE REASON, THE TOWN LOST $47,000 IN REVENUES Why did councilman Brandon preach the need of a Property Tax but oppose the Business Privilege Tax? COULD IT BE THAT ALL OF THESE ACTIONS BETTER THE MISS ION TO DIS INCORPORATE? The Town Income 1974 1974 actual income what income should (1970 census) have been:(1974 census) Income from State and Federal Sources Guaranteed because of $45,095 $92,208 Being Incorporated. (All cities and towns have a Busines's Privilege Tax- it is not a property tax.) The Business Privilege Tax figures were based upon construction of 40 units for this fiscal year. Fourteen (14) are now underway- ten more are in the planning stage- OVER 1/2 IN LESS THAN TWO MONTHS. This is being done under current zoning in the area.
