Sirs:
On August 23rd your newspapers carried an article stating that the
Town of Oro Valley was hiring a Town clerk. The article indicated that
Mayor Holford stated the volunteer system didn't work and implied (at
least left many people with the impression) that the Town Clerk and
Deputy Clerks were not doing their lob. Those statements and implications
are grossly untrue and unfair.
It is a matter of fact that the Town Clerk and Deputy Clerks, as
well as other Town volunteers, are doing an outstanding job. These
volunteers, all strong supporters of continued Incorporation, are working
under very adverse conditions. They are trying to serve a community
which is under the control of a Town Council majority dedicated to destroy
the Town. This destruction is exactly what the Pima County Board of
Supervisors, the City of Tucson, and you in control of the two daily
newspapers want. All of your biased statements and printings make the
jobs of these volunteers even more difficult. Such action can only
serve to hurt decent people.
I, for one, highly commend Mrs. Ethyl Carreon, Mrs . Marcia Faccio,
and all of the other volunteers who have been serving the Town. They
are working hard and doing an excellcnt job. These indivivals are trying
to help 'build' . The others are trying to 'destroy' and it isn't very
difficult to be a destroyer. By the way, which type of individual
would you want working for your newspaper?
Very truly yours,
James D. Kriegh
