The Site is intended to house the Southern Regional Branch Headquarters for OneAZ Credit Union, which will consist of a 3,424 square foot Building, Two Drive -up ATM's with Decorative Canopy and Screening elements, Parking to accommodate the function of the Credit Union, a Trash Enclosure, Desert Landscaping particularly shade trees in the parking lot (Also maintain the majority of the existing landscape), Pedestrian Cross -Site circulation. The Intent is to create an Iconic Building with a sense of arrival at the gateway to the San Dorado development while maintaining views of the Santa Catalina Mountains from Oracle Road. With the use of Desert Landscaping, Massing, Shading elements, Decorative Canopies and Screening, the intent is to create a visually dynamic site that will be cohesive with the surrounding vernacular and create comfortable pathways for pedestrians coupled with framed views of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The Building will be presented to the street with a varied massing and elements of transparency, allowing for visual connection from within the building to the exterior and to Oracle Road. The manner in which the site and building comply with the Town of Oro Valley Design Principles (section 22.9.D.5) and the Design Standards will be discussed below. Site Design: Building Orientation - The Building's proposed location on the site is close to the intersection to engage the San Dorado gateway monument signage and landscape. Nestled in with the existing objects and taking design cues from the aesthetics of the gateway. Drainage/Grading — To accommodate the site work and building minimal grading will be required. Existing swales and drainage areas will be utilized Connectivity — The Building has been sited to encourage movement around the building, pedestrian pathways have been added to increase connectivity to adjacent properties. Conceptual Architectural Design: Design - The building uses a palette of materials and colors that have a clear visual link to the desert southwest. The massing of the building is a modern variation on regional pueblo style bvnoo11 a DBSI INCORPORATED Scale, Height, and Mass — The building complies with the Town of Oro Valley site requirements. Additionally, the building takes formal direction from adjacent properties. Fapade Articulation — The building mass has movement in both plan and section. The addition of overhangs, fin walls, and shade canopies for windows provides additional interest and movement. The Main element of the building, the Tower rotates towards the intersection of Oracle and 1st avenue and pushes the brim of its "hat" back in greeting. Signs — for signage there are 2 approaches: first on the building, silhouette letters on the skin of the building elevate the signage above the typical. Second the utilization of the existing monument sign that mirrors the monument on the south side of 1st avenue and creates a gateway to the San Dorado development. Screening — the majority of equipment is located on the roof and the parapet wall screens them from view. The remaining equipment is screened behind a ground face block wall. Small site walls of the same ground face block will be strategically distributed to shield car headlights from adjacent properties. The refuse enclosure will be of ground face block to match the equipment enclosure. Compliance with The Town of Oro Valley Design Standards has been met in many ways. The building's siting to help frame views to the Santa Catalina mountains. Placing parking to the rear of the site. Public Art will be accessible more than 40 hours per week and visible with illumination in the evenings. The ATM Drive Through takes cues from the building design yet remains a downplayed element. The building has definite links to the pedestrian scale with the sizing of fenestrations, elevations of panel joints and material changes, as well site walkways and semi - courtyard spaces. The roof line slopes in two directions, first the Tower greeting the intersection and second the main space pens up to emphasize views of the Santa Catalina mountains from within the space. The priorities for the final selection was based on the following priorities: • Local Arizona Artist • Modern, Southwestern, Upscale, suitable to represent our Brand • Materials utilized to capture and reflect the natural lighting from high ceilings and large windows • Stately structure using vibrant colors and materials depicting Arizona to include a light feature • Must compliment the interior design to stand the test of time artistically and charm the hearts of our members and associates The Executive Team at OneAZ Credit Union reviewed the letters of interest from the 32 artists with our priorities in mind. Representing the team was Grace Duval, Regional President, David Sweiderk, EVP and COO and Deborah Pearson, EVP of Marketing and Brand. In addition to the Executive Team, we randomly selected twelve associates to review the artwork without identifying the artist. We narrowed the search to four finalists. We then voted on the four artist's presentations with the following results: First Place: Matthew Moutafis - Blooming Agave Second Place: Al Gann -The Rythm of Nature Third Place: Nancy McIntosh - Mosaic & Steel Sculpture Fourth Place: Zach Lihatsh - Lighted Agave I notified SAACA of our final decision for the project on Friday, July 7,201 It is my understanding that the representatives from SAACA agreed with the final selection made by OneAZ Credit Union and notified Mr. Moutafis on July 14,2017. The project is under construction and should it be completed early, our artist has arranged for storage until installation can occur. 3 . co PLANNING YOUR PUBLIC ART... I will, if chosen, use all of my talent and experience to create a work of beauty that adds to the interior design features. The art will incorporate natural lighting and spectacular views inherent in the interior design and architectural structure. I have created over 23 public art pieces in the Town of Oro Valley, and for over 40 years, I have been part of the creative art and fine art culture in Oro Valley. I am proud of my achievements and dedication to the Town. Proiect Scope: A Sculpture for the interior of the newest branch for OneAz Credit Union / Oro Valley. Description: A Flowering Agave sculpture made of copper and steel with an internal illumination of a blossom cluster rising from the Agave center climbing to the top of the sculpture. Size: The Sculpture is 3 feet wide with an overall height of 6 feet including the blossom cluster. The sculpture stands and is affixed to a 2 foot stand composed of a steel base with a walnut veneer. The entire sculpture includ- ing the stand is 8 feet high. A Verde green and blue patina will be applied to the copper creating an illusion of the plant surface texture. The blossom section is removable allowing for maintenance and LED bulb replacement. An outlet cord at the back of the sculpture connects to the base. This low maintenance, strikingly beautiful Agave is crowned by an array of blossoms, lighted by LED low volt- age mini lights which radiate from the top of the blossom stalk. The Agave sculpture is a focal point of the interi- or lobby area, 8 feet tall inclusive, is coordinated with the interior designer. Timeline: The Agave Art will be completed in time for the installation during the 1 s` Quarter of 2018. Actual completion goal will be December 1, 2017. Costs: The Agave Art will cost $20,000 plus applicable taxes. The art budget includes delivery, installation and maintenance handbook for OneAz Credit Union. I look forward to presenting my concept if chosen. Thank you for your consideration, Matthew Moutafis ARTIST CONCEPT L7 Lew V 2a -ter j 4/✓tsie f ri` . ,ry ,., ..',N- j'-- .. We estimate the weight of the structure to be approximately 200-300 Ibs with a diameter of 3' and height of 7.5'. It is our intention to mount the sculpture to the floor to be sure it is stable and cannot be tipped. We understand that the Town of Oro Valley requires structural evaluation by an Arizona Registered Structural Engineer. With the unique nature of this piece of art, we would appreciate any guidance you can provide on specific Town Codes, Building Code Sections, minimal Seismic or lateral loads that your Public Works' reviewers will require as a part of this submittal. We would entertain any thoughts you might have on how best to navigate this project through your permitting process. Sincerely, CAID tndustrie Kyl Peyton, S.E., P.E. Special Projects MAINTENANCE HANDBOOK L __ Maintenance Handbook Introduction One of the benefits of designing an interior art sculpture is to minimize the effects of outdoor hostile environment, which exists in southwestern Arizona. The combination of ultraviolet radiation, moisture from summer and spring monsoons, and the exposures to vandalism greatly affects the decision to create an indoor sculpture. The security and alarm systems existing in this financial institution plus high ceilings over the statue, made it possible to include illumination in the sculpture. Sculpture Overview Base Cabinet: The base cabinet is composed of a walnut veneer. The cabinet interior is steel and bolted from four places to the concrete floor of the Credit Union. The Base Cabinet houses an illuminator as described in the Agave Sculpture description below, and a professional grade 24-hour timer to be set for the Credit Union official hours of business. The illuminator plugs into the timer, and the timer plugs into an electric junction box embedded in the floor beneath the sculpture. Data sheets for both the illuminator and the timer are attached for future reference. The entire sculpture has a 2-year guarantee from Mathew Moutafis, the Artist. Agave Sculpture: The Agave Sculpture is fabricated in steel and the entire agave sculpture is bolted to the steel frame in the base cabinet. Agave leaves are sculpted to form the plant. Leaves are welded in place to a center core which includes a vertical stem rising 6 feet from the top of the base cabinet to the top of the agave blossoms. Leaves are powder coated in a two-tone affect. The leaf exterior is coated in bronze and the leaf interior is coated in variations of agave blues and greens (samples attached). The blossom stems are steel with smaller stems welded to the central stem. Blossom clusters are sculpted from clear acrylic and formed to resemble actual flowering agave blossoms. There are six blossom clusters at the height of the sculpture. The illumination of the blossom clusters are composed of an array of fiber optic strands which radiate from the illuminator housing in the base cabinet, up through the main stem to the blossoms. The color of the fiber optics output are in the amber family that visually resembles actual flower color. As this is a work of art, the colorization of the acrylic and the arrangement of the fiber optics colorization are considered the creative intellectual property of the Artist Matthew Moutafis. The fabrication process for this sculpture is being produced by one of America's premier fabrication facilities, CAID Industries, who fabricated the Sun Dial Sculpture in Oro Valley Innovation Park. Sculpture Care Base Cabinet: Other than routine dusting, it is recommended to apply an old English type of furniture polish with a soft cloth once a year to retain wood finish. Sculpture Leaves: A light dusting is recommended weekly and a damp cloth (not wet) be used to remove any dirt. This branch is a flagship location for the statewide OneAZ Credit Union, I expect that the air-conditioning and air circulation will have no impact on the sculpture for years to come. Issue 1 There is no additional maintenance other than the replacement of the illuminator unit. The illuminator has a range of 20-25,000 hours of life; at 40 hours a week, 261 work days a year. The illuminator will last approximately 20-25 years. The artist and CAID Industries (who will fabricate the sculpture) have established the understanding that CAID will maintain the statue and replace the illuminator unit if needed. Until the unfortunate occurrence of the artist's passing, the artist will be available to OneAZ Credit Union for any repairs. The actual fibers in the sculptures are just that, fibers (like a fishing line like of fiber thread) no energy, no moving parts, nothing ... just a bundle of threads. The only thing unique about the threads is that they carry light... produced by the illuminator. The light travels through the treads (fibers) into the sculpture. The illuminator is just that, an illuminator. Issue 2 The high gloss is a final coating to the finished sculpture and is applied after the color coatings are applied to the sculpture leaves. Unlike outdoor sculptures, no UV radiation can affect the sculpture or mar its gloss... no rain or dust will clog its assembly. The sculpture will stand beautiful and impervious to weather and sunlight. A gentle dusting as outlined in the maintenance handbook will retain its beauty for generations. Art/Sculpture Plaque A bronze tone plaque measuring 3" x6" total 18sq. inches will be affixed to the top surface of the Table Cabinet, at a 45-degree angle for maximum viewing. Engraved in black, on the bronze type plaque are the following words: "Blooming Agave" By Matthew Moutafis 2018 "Oro Valley 1 % for Public Art Program" will be added to the sculpture plaque.
