HomeMy WebLinkAboutPackets - Council Packets (109) For Public Record Mayor Hiremath and Councilmembers, It's been 15 years since I retired from teaching, and now I must again address an important problem. The problem is balloons, birds, and other wildlife. My last third grade class and I had this discussion. Balloons hurt birds and wildlife. The types of balloon, how many balloons are connected, and the type of strings or ribbons used can be devastating to birds. If the latex or Mylar of the balloon is ingested, it can clog the bird's stomach. This can lead to choking or starvation. If balloons become unattached, the strings or ribbons can entangle a bird. If a bird uses the string to build a nest, the string can entrap a hatchling. You can help. Refer to Item#4 on the Regular Agenda of the February 18th Council Meeting. Do not initiate a zoning code amendment to consider changes to balloons. RETAIN THE CURRENT CRITERIA FOR BALLOONS: PROHIBITED Thank you, Diane Bristow A concerned Oro Valley resident
