LA CANADA DRIVE ORO VALLEY, ARIZONA 85737 Tuesday, April 19, 2016 CALL TO ORDER AT OR AFTER 6:00 PM Vice Chair Sutton-Ryan called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Alison Sutton-Ryan, Vice Chair Tim Overton, Member Ellen Guyer, Member Thomas Carle, Member Betty Danker, Member � r EXCUSED: Adam Wade, Chair Sarah Corning, Member � Member Overton arrived at 6:12 p.m. OTHER STAFF PRESENT: Kristy Diaz-Trahan, Parks and Recreation Director Mary Snider, Town Councilmember . Chris Cornelison, Assistant to the Town Manager CALL TO AUDIENCE No speakers. 1. REVIEW AND/OR APPROVAL OF FEBRUARY 16, 2016 REGULAR SESSION MINUTES t � MOTION: A motion was made by Member Danker and seconded by Member Carle to approve the February 16, 2016 meeting minutes as written. MOTION carried, 5-0. � Kristy Diaz-Trahan, Parks and Recreation Direction, advised that Item 6 will be moved up so the youth members can go home for homework. � ' r 6. PRESENTATION, DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING NAMING PARK LOCATED NORTH OF ENCANTADA AT STEAM PUMP RANCH (APARTMENTS) � � Sophia Silva and Patrick Haus of the Youth Advisory Council presented their council's five recommendations of names for the park: (1) EI Principio Park; (2) Coyote Melon Park; (3) Pristino Park; (4) Tho'ag Park and (5) Tho'ag Akimel Park. They provided meanings behind the names as well as their reasons for selecting. MOTION: A motion was made by Member Carle and secon�ed by Member Guyerto forward the plural version of the first name recommendation as Principios Park, and the fourth recommenda#ion, Tho'ag Park, for selection and naming to Town Council. MOTION carried, 5-0. 2. DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTI�N FOR A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JULY AS PARKS AND RECREATION MONTH Ms. Diaz-Trahan stated that the National Park and Recreation Association declares July as Parks & Recreation month throughout the United States. Each year, a new theme is adopted for every state to utilize. Ms. Diaz-Trahan would like to present to the town council to adopt this annual recognition based upon the Parks and Recreation Advisory �Board's recommendation for approval. This year, the theme is Find Your Parks � Superhero. � MOTION: A motion was made by Member Guyer and seconded by Member Overton to recognize July as Parks and Recreation month. MOTION carried, 5-0. 3. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION - FINAL RESULTS 4F THE FIELD USE SURVEY Vice Chair Sutton-Ryan highlighted results from the survey of information collected from the power user groups of the fields. The most consistent feedback was that more fields are needed at Naranja Park and better communication is needed from staff regarding the scheduling challenges. The board discussed their concerns regarding the results and the anticipated growth of the user groups. 4. PRESENTATION AND DISCUSSION ON THE ORO VALLEY INTERACTIVE �. TRAILS MAP AND SIGNAGE PLANS Ms. Diaz-Trahan introduced the interactive map of parks and trails located on the To�vn of Oro Valley website. She demonstrated how to use the map on the site and showed the information the map details. - - 5. PRESENTATION �AND POSSIBLE ACTION REGARDING ADDING SWINGS AT RIVERFRONT PARK At the March 2, 2016 town council meeting, a request was made regarding swings to � Riverfront Park. Ms. Diaz-Trahan is seeking the board's recommendation of whether or not they would support this requesto She presented two proposed areas in the park where the swings could be installed and explained what the cost and construction would entail. � MOTION: A motion was made by Member Guyer and seconded by Member Carle to not support swings�at the two proposed areas. MOTION carried, 5-0. � 7. DIRECTOR'S REPORT (DISCUSSI4N MUST BE LIMITED TO INFORMATION AND CLARIFICATION) Ms. Diaz-Trahan highlighted the following: - The Oro Valley Main Streets project and upcoming workshop - Update on budget process � � -�The Parks Maintenance division now falls under the Community Services and Public Works division - Fundi�g between next two fiscal years to add additional fields at Naranja Park in Spring 2017 with play/use in early 2018 - Purchasing additional smaller heater units at the aquatic center - Eight additional parking spaces will be available in May at the Linda Vista trailhead - Greenock Trail is being considered for donation to the Town - Provided updates on recent events and upcoming events 8. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS (THE PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MAY BRING FORTH GENERAL TOPICS FOR FUTURE MEETING AGENDAS. DISCUSSION MUST BE LIMITED TO INF�RMATION AND CLARIFICATION) - Brief presentation on community center activities we offer - Refresher training on open meeting law and conduct - Activities and tournaments at the community center - PX9 u pd ate - Further discussion on the accessible playground , including what is offered to youth and adults with specials needs and what we could offer in the future ADJOURNMENT M�TION: A motion was made by Member Guyer and seconded by Member Carle to adjourn the meeting.
