SUBJECT: Review and Possible Action to Select a Town Attorney
SUMMARY:
The Council has interviewed 4 initial candidates for the position of Town Attorney.
A variety of actions are now possible to the Council including, but not limited to: 1)
Selecting a candidate for hiring and directing staff to begin negotiation of an
employment agreement; 2) Narrowing the field of current candidates to one or more
finalists for further interviews or additional information gathering; 3) Keeping the
current list of candidates and advertising for additional applications in order to
broaden the field of candidates; 4) Notifying all the current candidates that none of
them will be hired and advertising for new applications to change the field of
candidates; 5) providing other direction to staff.
FISCAL IMPACT:
May vary depending on action taken.

Packets contain interview questions and application materials for each of the four interview candidates.

R Y: Under administrative direction, provides legal counsel to Town

Manager & staff, Mayor and Council Members. Directs Legal staff and outside counsel engaged
in thep rovision of legal advice to protect the interests of the Town.

Knowledge of applicable State and Federal statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Juris Doctor degree.
• Minimum of seven (7) years experience in general practice of law; OR an equivalent
combination of education and experience.
• Must possess at the time of application, and maintain throughout employment, a license
to practice law in the state of Arizona.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS and WORKING CONDITIONS:
• Work is performed in an indoor environment.
• Travel to other locations both indoor and outdoor may be required in order to effectively
carry out responsibilities with regard to specific cases or issues.
