Mayor Joe Winfield, members of the Oro Valley Town Council, town staff
Ladies and gentlemen,
The Greater Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce stands in support of
Ordinance (0)19-04, an amendment to the Oro Valley Town Centre
planned area development, Item 1 on Wednesday's regular agenda.
In March, when the applicants brought this proposal to you, you asked
for adjustments in open space percentage, grading, side -yard setbacks
and distance, erosion, view impacts and a number of other specifics.
Since then, the applicants, working with the town staff, have
addressed many of your concerns. The number of lots has been
reduced by 5. Lot size variations have been incorporated. Side -yard
setbacks are wider. Dedicated open space has gone up by more than
2 acres, to a full 72 percent of the total project area. Grading has
been reduced. Noise has been studied, with reasonable results. Impacts
on views have been further mitigated.
We believe these applicants and their representatives have worked in
good faith with you, town staff and neighbors. Fair compromises
have been reached. As we say, repeatedly, the Oro Valley way is for
developers and neighbors — and, importantly, representatives of
government -- to engage, to listen, and to approach acceptable
compromise. That has occurred on this parcel. In Oro Valley, nobody
gets everything they want, but everyone gets something, and the
community prospers as a result. Oro Valley's deliberative process is
once again yielding a good result.
We appreciate the willingness of all parties, and request that this
amendment be recommended for approval. Thank you for your time
and your service.
Respectfully submitted,
Dave Perry

Subject: NO Water Rate Increase
I am adamantly opposed to any water rate increase. I am retired and on a fixed income. I can't just willy-nilly absorb a
rate increase because you feel like imposing one. Your water is already very expensive. Most of my water is spent
irrigating my postage stamp lot in Rancho Vistoso. I may be forced to hire some illegal alines to rip out the yard, remove
the rocks and spray everything with Triox. That will look good) But then again, it won't use any water.
When us little people, particularly those of us on fixed incomes, get cost increases jammed down our throats we are
forced to cut back elsewhere. Why don't you try it? Tell the water department "you're not getting any more money,
make it work on what you've got". That is what the little people have to do: they make it work on what they've got.
Oro Valley has a reputation for gold-plating everything. It is the only place I've ever seen where even the sound walls
have art on them. While it might be pretty it costs money. Why don't you try removing a bit of the gold plating around
the town and reduce costs just a bit? Try living like everyone else.
How much of this rate increase is to cover the $450K Romspen owes the water utility for all the water the utility allowed
that golf course to have? If any of the little people missed more than a single payment their water would be shut off.
What waste -of -oxygen allowed that $450K to build? You know as well as the rest of us it will never get paid. So how
much of the rate increase is to cover that write-off?
There is always an election coming up. This type of cost increase is election fodder. And people like me will make sure
fiscal irresponsibility is front and center to the voters before the next election. We need responsible people running the
town.

Rick Cunnington

Subject: RE OVPD
Hi Mike,
I received word that on June 5th the Oro Valley Town Council will give it's final approval to the 2019-2020 budget. I am
one of the Store Managers at the locally owned Summit Hut and I wanted to advocate for the potentiality of adding -on
more officers in the coming year. We have two locations: one in central Tucson, and one right here in Oro Valley. Being
that we are a small local company, we do not have the security frills that many of our competitors, and or many of the
large stores that exist in this community have. When we first opened our location in Oro Valley, we were blown away by
the presence that OVPD provided to the community. The program in which OVPD would adopt a business was
something I had never experienced before. Having an officer act as a liaison to the department eased our transition into
the new space and abated issues we had endured with theft in our store.
Recently the presence has been lacking, and although correlation does not equal causation, we have had a marked
increase in theft in our store. I used to see a volunteer squad car roam the lot in the mornings, but that volunteer basis
has become less, and less.
I have had the opportunity to work in our Tucson location as well, and I've got to tell you, it is much easier dealing and
accomplishing things through OVPD than it is TPD. There have been times being in central Tucson where we have had
theft, knives pulled at waist -side, and waistline firearms flashed to intimidate us. TPD has done nothing but left us
waiting in the fray only to circle back a week or two later. It's the reality of TPD's force that there are simply not enough
officers employed. I hope that Oro Valley sees the importance of having a sufficient enough police force. It's why we,
and everyone decides to move up here- it is simply more safe —safer for us working here, safer for the community, and
safer for the customers that choose to come into our store.
I hope the value is clear what OVPD provides, and I hope the money gets directed in the right way.
Have a great weekend, and thank you for your time
