Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor and Councilpersons,
This is a brief but impassioned letter requesting that you, as our representatives, fully consider the
thoughtful and very complete information sent to you recently by our neighborhood leaders, Barry
Lemieux, Ed Clary and Neill Freeman regarding 680 facility. We, as a cohesive region of Oro Malley,
highly value the special beauty of our locale and the privilege of living in the Town. We are long -terra
residents, supportive of the efforts and activities that you and the Town staff provide.
Let me say initially that I am appreciative of the efforts that have taken place so far to clean up, partially
secure and "beautify" the 680 property. It is a good start.
That said, we remain unified in our serious concerns regarding what most folks who live in similar
properties would consider a blight. IF we must continue to live with the facility in our midst, we need to
draw your attention to the fact that there is still work to be done to increase the security of the property
and to address specific safety concerns.
As I hope you know, the large above -ground fuel tanks and the open border at the south end of the
property (where a true security wall is indicated) have obvious potential for real tragedy
(liability). They are remnants of another era and it would seem quite prudent to bury them in today's
world. There is also the ongoing issue with noxious chemical and exhaust fumes that permeate the
environment at the facility and the adjacent properties.
I fully understand the fiscal burden of corrective measures. That has been made abundantly clear to us
by Paul Keesler in the past. I simply request and expect that the above concerns, if 680 services must
remain where they are, be addressed in an expedited manner with adequate appropriations to do so in
the current budget planning.
Thank you for your time.
Respectfully,
Claudia Dill
