3.METER DATA TRANSFER RELATING TO WATERSMART ALERTS
Ms.Boyce explained factors contributing to the potential delay experienced when receiving a
leak alert notification for high water usage:
• Notifications differ—set by the Utility and set by customers
• The Utility's AMI meters hold and transfer data approximately every 4-6 hours.
Programming them to transfer real time data would cause the batteries to deplete
quicker, causing frequent replacement and maintenance cost increases.
• Billing system interfaces with AMI meters and WaterSmart which requires interpretation
and internal operations
• Blocked meters are a potential cause for delays
Ms.Boyce commented the Utility hopes to get real time data in the future.
