From: Thomas Dreisinger ' Sent: Wednesday, Decemoer Z5, 2019 6:55 PM To: Town Council <council@orovalleyaz.gov> Subject: OVPD Chief succession... Dear Members of the Oro Valley City Council, As a citizen of Oro Valley, I am disappointed that the search for the new chief of police has mostly been done behind closed doors. While not publicly disclosed, it is my understanding a citizen panel met with the search group and and that they strongly supported succession from with the OVPD ranks. I have spoken to this issue twice via blue card at City Council Meetings. I have heard am very concerned that a Mr. Jeffrey Kirkham is being considered as an outside candidate for the Chief of Police position. In fact, I don't know this be true. Having said that, I have taken time to vet this individual. His track record does not seem to compare favorably to internal OVPD candidates. I further have been given to understand that you have a previous history with this candidate. As mentioned, the above may not be true, but little of the process has been made open to the public. People like me pick up bits and pieces that may be unfounded rumor. Yet, without transparency it is difficult to sift the "...wheat from the tares..." I believe it is incumbent upon elected leaders of this community to be forthcoming to their constituents from whom they owe their elected office. I cannot emphasize how the Council's lack of transparency has been disturbing, and in my view unnecessary, to this community. I am not alone in seeing a change in the OVPD culture as an existential threat to the very reason citizens come to Oro Valley - Public Safety. This decision may be the most important on the City Council makes, and it will have long lasting consequences - unintended consequences. Respectfully, Teri nrPisinner. I served on the Oro Valley Parks and Rec Advisory Committee for 4 years and on the Oro Valley Library Family Advisory Committee for 2 years. I have had the privilege to work with Chief Sharp in my work as Social work Faculty and a Mental Health Professional. I am greatly concerned, disappointed, and angered at the tremendous delay to hire a successor to Chief Sharp. This council ran on the idea that you all could "do it better" than the previous council members. Instead, you have displayed a complete lack of effectiveness. If you are are represent Oro Valley, hire this position now. Stop with the expensive external search firm. Follow Chief Sharps recommendations. DO IT NOW. KEEP ORO VALLEY SAFE. Follow the work done before you. Respect it. and DO YOUR JOB Sincerely Alison
