Architectural approval for the Vistoso Resort Casitas was granted by the DRB on December 10, 1996, however the architecture for the carports was never reviewed by DRB. This request is for approval of the architecture and color of the carports. The applicant proposes to construct a total of 62 carports, in groups of four and six, in the parking lot. The design of the carports is very similar to those approved by the DRB for Pusch Ridge Apartments, The Boulders at La Reserve, and Catalina Crossing apartments. The overall height is 9.5 feet at the high end of the semi-cantilever structure, and the width (front to back) is 18 feet. The structure is steel with a corrugated metal roof. Mr. Martinson, President, Mirage Homes, stated that the carport submitted is one that has been used in several other subdivisions. The color is painted to match the project so it would blend well. Their intent was to provide shade for the tenants. Mary Glueck commented plainer is simpler and these carports are inside the compound. Mr. Wind commented he is only voting yes because the carports are on the inside. MOTION: Moved, seconded (Allen/Underwood) and carried by a 7-0 vote to approve OV12-06-12, carports for Vistoso Resort Casitas, and the colors as presented. ITEM -1 TOWN OF ORO VALLEY DEVELOPMENT REVIEW BOARD REPORT MEETING DATE: January 13, 1998 TO: DEVELOPMENT REVIEW BOARD FROM: Bryant Nodine, AICP, Senior Planner SUBJECT: Continued - OV13-96-12 Vistoso Resort Casitas Carports SUMMARY: This item is continued from the December 16``' DRB meeting due to the applicant not being present to answer some questions. Architectural approval (revised) for the Vistoso Resort Casitas was granted by the DRB on December 10, 1996 and the architecture for the garages was approved in February 1997. However, though the carports were shown on the development plan, their architecture was never reviewed by DRB. This request is for approval of the architecture and color of the carports. The applicant proposes to construct a total of 62 carports, in groups of four and six, in the parking lot (see the attached development plan). As depicted in the attached photos and engineering drawings, the design of the carports is very similar to those approved by the DRB for Pusch Ridge Apartments, The Boulders at La Reserve, and Catalina Crossing apartments. The overall height is 9.5 feet at the high end of the semi-cantilever structure, and the width (front to back) is 18 feet. The structure is steel with a corrugated metal roof. GENERAL PLAN COMPLIANCE: The mass and bulk of the carports are minimal and the color has been chosen to blend the carports with the casitas. Thus the proposal meets the intent of the General Plan. RECOMMENDATION: Planning staff finds that the proposed carports for the Vistoso Resort Casitas are similar in design and construction to other carport structures approved for use in the Town. The paint color proposed for the structures (Desert Beige) is an excellent match to the approved trim color (Wildcat) of the Casitas. Staff recommends approval. SUGGESTED MOTIONS: I move to approve OV12-96-12, carports for Vistoso Resort Casitas, and the colors as presented.
