SUBJECT: OV13-94-17 Territorial Sign Co. Request for Approval of a Permanent Entry-Way
Sign - Canada Hills, Villages 21 and 22
SUMMARY:
On behalf of the homeowners in Villages 21 and 22, Territorial Signs has presented a sketch plan for
a new permanent entry-way sign for the above-referenced subdivision, which is located south of Canada
Hills Drive and east of La Cholla Blvd. The entry-way monument wall on which the signage will be
placed is to be located at the southeast corner of Canada Hills Drive and Muirhead Loop.
The wall itself is to be approximately three feet in height and the text for the sign, "Village 21 and 22"
is to be constructed of cut-out copper letters, block style, with a patina finish. This sign will not be
illuminated.
The sign, as proposed, conforms to the oro Valley Zoning Code Revised in terms of size, color and
materials of construction, but it should be noted that the beige wall color, the patina copper letters and
the block letter style are not totally consistent with the signs used at the main Canada Hills project
entries, which are of brushed brass letters placed on off-site, "curvy" walls. The code states that, ".. Sign
colors within a complex or development shall utilize complementary and consistent color schemes subject
to approval by the Development Review Board." In the strictest sense, the patina copper letters and the
beige tone wall behind are not identical to the overall project signs for Canada Hills, however, Staff does
not find the variation objectionable because the signs are, in fact, located some distance from one
another.
RECOMMENDATION:
If the DRB members perceive that this sign, although somewhat different in color and text style, is
compatible with other existing permanent signs in the Canada Hills development, Staff would not object
to approval of this sign package, as presented.
