Oracle Road BACKGROUND: El Corredor, a commercial development approved in 1990, now has its first building, a 1,700 square foot structure, which lies on the east side of Oracle Road, north of Linda Vista Blvd. The building, now nearing completion, is to be utilized as an art gallery, Wolfe Galleries, owned by Mrs. Jane Bradford. SUMMARY: Mrs. Bradford has presented a plan for a permanent sign to identify her business at this location. The proposed sign is approximately 25 square feet in size (28 square feet would be permitted on a 56 foot long wall less than 150 feet from the property line). The cut-out, pan channel letters will be made of a solid brown plastic material, mounted directly to the wall above the tiled porch roof. Staff was supplied with a sample of a plastic letter (available at the meeting) to be used in this sign and we found it to be attractive, sturdy and in conformance with the Town's Sign Code, which places no restrictions on the use of plastics for signs. Per the sign contractor, this sign will not be illuminated. This sign, as proposed, conforms with the Oracle Road Scenic Corridor Specific Plan goals and objectives as they pertain to "Visual Image". The sign, being of muted colors and non-illuminated, conforms with the ORSCSP goals to "eliminate visual clutter" and utilize "subdued lighting to enhance nighttime views". RECOMMENDATION: Staff finds the size, materials of construction and color to be in conformance with the Oro Valley Sign Code and, as such, we recommend approval. SUGGESTED MOTION: I move to approve OV 13-94-37, the Wolfe Galleries permanent sign request, as presented.
