Albertson's proposes to commission an artist (to be determined)to create a large format original painting (approximately 2 foot high by 12 foot long or possibly a triptych or other approach of similar size). The original painting would be displayed in the entry foyer of our new store. An enlarged color reproduction on vinyl (approximately 1foot high by 6 foot long)would be installed inside the store on the north wall. The theme of the work should relate the lore of the"Iron Door Mine"which I recall from my childhood in Tucson as being a lost Spanish mine in the Pusch Ridge area of the Catalina mountains which our new store will face. The commissioned artist will be charged with the task to draw upon the context of the area and the theme which of course also has something to do with city name of Oro Valley and the Canada Del Oro wash. My vision would have the piece executed in the heroic WPA style of Thomas Hart Benton and compliment the interior of our store, which will be executed with our"Plaza Mercado"decor. Since the store will be open from 6:00 AM to 1:00 AM or twenty hours per day, seven days a week,we feel this proposed solution is in compliance with Oro Valley's Public Arts regulations. Prior to proceeding with this approach, Albertson's is seeking confirmation and support of your department and the Oro Valley Arts Advisory Board, the Public Art Review Committee, and the Oro Valley Town Council. If this approach is accepted Albertson's will then proceed with a request for submissions from Arizona artists and proceed in compliance with Oro Valley regulations. I Thank you for you attention and consideration of this matter. ocfq 1+tS 1 C rluSevi'`k- Sincerely, ` , ' U ALBERTSON'S, INC. `7 !" 0 [AA 61616 (. tt,id./1'-i,i.
