Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
I am writing to express my support for the proposed OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths
Master Plan.
I appreciate the effort the Town has put into public outreach, especially through the OV
Path Forward process. The plan clearly reflects community priorities around trails,
connectivity, and outdoor recreation.
l'm esoecially encourage_dAo s_ee the recognition of th"ig1F h and Honev_le_eArail

I moved to Sun City Oro Valley because of access to the Honey Bee trails originating from the Big Wash
Trail Head. I thank you and leaders in the Oro Valley community for your support of Traits. I am a member of the
Vistoso Cyclists and the Sonora Desert Mt Bike club.
I believe that trails and the access they give to our wonderful environment pays dividends both
financially and in quality of life.
Thank you for your continued support,

Dear Oro Valley Town Council,
For the past 8 years I have been trying to protect the trails in the Honeybee area on the east side of the
Tortolita Mountains. I have tried working with the AZ State Lands Department (with little success) and
held a legislative "Day on the Ground" in 2018 to convene a multiple of interested parties, including the
ranchers who hold grazing leases there, to talk about this important landscape and how best to retain its
rural nature from development.
I am the past president of the Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists and steering committee member of
the Network for Arizona Trails. I am deeply committed to trails and was instrumental in getting the
Arizona legislature to go on record by passing a concurrent resolution in 2021 that we wrote affirming the
importance of outdoor recreation and trails for economic, social, environmental and physical health.
I also took Mayor Joe Winfield and Vice Mayor Melanie Barrett with Bob Burns of the Trek Foundation on a
mountain bike ride to experience the Honeybee Trails for themselves. They were impressed. Finally, I am
a registered professional archaeologist and would like to see the numerous archaeological sites in the
Tortolitas preserved where the trails exist. This landscape is too valuable as a natural and cultural
resource.
For several years, I maintained a bike counter on the trails and we found that more than 18,000 bikers
from 45 states and 27 foreign countries made use of these trails each year. I made several presentations
to previous town councils about this data.
I was also part of the group that advocated for the Big Wash trailhead after the problems on Quiet Rain
Drive and helped build the 1.3 mile trail to the state land boundary. I also helped install the rollover gate
there. I love these trails and am so glad to see them included in the OV master plan.
Trails in the Oro Valley are a rich resource that attract people to the area, to spend time and money
locally. They are an asset that should be preserved and maintained.
I encourage the Town Council to adopt the OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths Master Plan and continue
prioritizing trails as part of Oro Valley's future. You have so much to gain.

Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
My name is David Boswell. I am an Oro Valley resident as well as a Southern Arizona native,
growing up in Tucson. I left for my medical education in 1987 and returned home in 1996 after
finishing my residency training in emergency medicine initially practicing at St. Mary's Hospital before
moving Carondelet Marana Emergency Center 5 years ago. When I returned home, I chose to live in
Oro Valley, in large part because of its access to plentiful hiking and biking trails. I remember when
the "Healthiest Town in America" initiative started almost 20 years ago. I have chosen to live,
preferentially shop/eat, and pay local taxes in Oro Valley for the past 30 years, in large part due to the
continued access to quality outdoor activities. I am also a mountain biker who has been biking the
Honeybee area for those 30 years I have resided here. The Honeybee Trails are the crown jewel of
the area. I routinely meet people there who are staying at Catalina State Park specifically for the
local mountain biking as well as gravel cycling, so it is clear to me that they have a positive economic
impact in Oro Valley.
I am writing this email to express my strongly support for the proposed OV Trails Connect Trails and

Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
I support the proposed OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths Master Plan.
The outreach through the OV Path Forward process shows. The plan reflects what the community has been
asking for —better trail access, connectivity, and outdoor space.
I'm glad to see the Big Wash and Honeybee corridors included. These have been key routes for years, and
recognizing them in the plan helps ensure they're maintained and protected moving forward.
Trails are a core part of Oro Valley. They impact how people live here, why they move here, and how they
spend time and money in the community.
I support adoption of the OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths Master Plan and continued prioritization of trails

Dear Mayor and Councilmembers,
I am writing to express my strong support for the Oro Valley Master Trails Plan being voted on this
evening.
Trails are a fundamental part of a healthy, vibrant community. They offer essential spaces for recreation
and physical activity, foster a deep connection with our natural landscape, and enhance the quality of
Life for all residents. Beyond their health benefits, a robust trail system adds significant value to our town
by promoting environmental stewardship and providing safe, accessible outdoor opportunities for
families and individuals alike.
I am especially encouraged by the inclusion of the Honeybee trails in this plan. Formally recognizing and
protecting these trails is a vital step in ensuring they remain a community asset for future generations.
I urge you to vote in favor of adopting the Master Trails Plan. Thank you for your time and for your
commitment to the future of Oro Valley.
Sincerely,
Tim Wagstaff

I am writing to encourage you to adopt OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths Master Plan. While I am not a

have long been important routes for the community, and formally acknowledging them is a meaningful
step toward ensuring they are responsibly managed and protected.
Trails are not just amenities —they are an important part of Oro Valley's identity and economy. They
attract people to live, work, and visit, while supporting local businesses and overall quality of life.
I encourage the Town Council to adopt the OV Trails Connect Trails and Paths Master Plan and continue
prioritizing trails as part of Oro Valley's future.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Respectfully,
Tom Furgason

Hi Michael,
I'm an OV resident, and also the President of the Sonoran Desert
Mountain Bicyclists, writing in support of Oro Valley's Path
Forward, Trails Connect Master Plan.
The Sonoran Desert Mountain Bicyclists (SDMB) is a Southern
Arizona —based, volunteer -run nonprofit with over 300 members
advocating for responsible, multi -use trail access across the region.
We appreciated the opportunity to work closely with Oro Valley
Planning staff and provide stakeholder input on the draft Trails Master
Plan.
We want to thank the Planning team for conducting a thoughtful and
inclusive public outreach process. The plan reflects priorities
identified through the Town's OV Path Forward engagement,
particularly around trails, connectivity, and outdoor recreation.
SDMB respectfully encourages the Town Council to approve the plan.
It aligns well with community input and represents a meaningful step
forward in planning for a connected, accessible, and sustainable trail
system.
In particular, we want to highlight and support the plan's
acknowledgment of the longstanding —yet previously unrecognized —
trail corridors in the Big Wash and Honeybee areas. These corridors
are among the most heavily used in Southern Arizona and serve as an
important recreational and wellness asset for residents, while also
functioning as key wildlife corridors. This plan is an investment in
OV's outdoor recreation economy.
Recognizing these routes within the plan is an important first step.
Ensuring their continued inclusion and advancing strategies for their
conservation will be important as the Town moves forward.
As this plan evolves into action, SDN1B is prepared to partner with the
Town of Oro Valley to support volunteer trail construction and
maintenance efforts.
Thank you for your consideration and for your support of Oro Valley's
trail system.
