HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - Parks and Recreation Advisory Board - 4/20/2021MINUTES TOWN OF ORO VALLEY PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD REGULAR SESSION APRIL 20, 2021 VIA ZOOM            REGULAR SESSION AT OR AFTER 6:00 PM   CALL TO ORDER    Chair Clark called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.   ROLL CALL Present: Joseph Coyle, Vice Chair Antonia Landau, Member Ronald Odell, Member Philip Saletta, Member Gary Temple, Member Matthew Wood, Member Anna Clark, Chair Staff Present:Joseph Andrews, Deputy Town Attorney Kristy Diaz-Trahan, Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Laue, Aquatics Manager MaryAnne Tolmie, Senior Office Specialist Attendees: Joyce Jones-Ivey, Council Member Liaison Mike Svetz, PROS Consulting CALL TO AUDIENCE    Chair Clark opened Call to Audience. Oro Valley resident Don McGann spoke regarding the Oro Valley Sports Alliance. Chair Clark closed the Call to Audience.   COUNCIL LIAISON COMMENTS    Council Member Jones-Ivey reported that Judge George Dunscomb, Magistrate is retiring after nearly 22 years of service. She encouraged everyone to welcome Judge James Hazel. Chief Kara Riley was recognized as one of the Best of the Northwest. Sgt. Andy Lopez received accommodation. April is road preservation, expect minor delays in traffic flow. She encouraged everyone to attend the council meeting, wherein the annexation of Westward Look, the 1/2 cent sales tax among other things will be discussed.   REGULAR SESSION AGENDA   1.REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE JANUARY 19, 2021 REGULAR SESSION, FEBRUARY 9, AND MARCH 23, 2021 STUDY SESSION MEETING MINUTES       Motion by Chair Anna Clark, seconded by Member Philip Saletta to approve the January 19, 2021 Regular Session Meeting Minutes, the February 9, 2021 Study Session Meeting Minutes and the March 23, 2021 Study Session Meeting Minutes.  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried   2.DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION TO RECOMMEND APPROVAL OF THE PARKS AND RECREATION MASTER PLAN TO THE ORO VALLEY TOWN COUNCIL       Chair Clark introduced Ms. Diaz-Trahan who made some remarks and introduced Mike Svetz who presented the attached summary. Discussion amongst board members ensued. Chair Clark and Ms. Diaz-Trahan encouraged Board Members to attend tomorrow's council meeting as this subject will be discussed. Chair Clark opened the meeting to public comment on the Master Plan. The following people spoke: Oro Valley resident Stephanie Mustain Oro Valley resident Don McGann Oro Valley resident Fred Narcaroti Chair Clark closed the public comment period.    Motion by Chair Anna Clark, seconded by Member Matthew Wood to recommend that the Town Council approve the Town of Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Master Plan finding that the outlined improvements, maintenance and replacement of Park facilities, with priority being placed on Naranja Park and the Amphitheater Schools Partnership, within the Plan will best serve Oro Valley Residents for the foreseeable future.  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried   FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS    Vice Chair Coyle requested a future discussion on what the Council concludes at tomorrow's meeting as it affects Parks and Recreation.   ADJOURNMENT    Ms. Diaz-Trahan again thanked the Board, both past and present, with their guidance regarding the Master Plan.    Motion by Member Philip Saletta, seconded by Vice Chair Joseph Coyle to adjourn at 7:09 p.m.  Vote: 7 - 0 Carried     I hereby certify that the foregoing minutes are a true and correct copy of the minutes of the regular session of the I hereby certify that the foregoing minutes are a true and correct copy of the minutes of the regular session of the Town of Oro Valley Parks and Recreation Advisory Board of Oro Valley, Arizona held on the 20th day of April, 2021.
