1 strongly support the efforts by the town council to negotiate the acquisition of the former Vistoso Golf Course for the
purpose of preserving the land in perpetuity as a natural desert and trail. I hope the negotiations with the current owner
will be completed in time for those willing to contribute funds for its purchase can do so before the end of this calendar
year. I also want to thank the Town Council for its efforts to date in pursuing this goal. Oro Valley, particularly north of

September 6 Town Council Meeting regarding the Vistoso Golf Property
Dear Mr. Standish,
I live in Stone Village in Rancho Vistoso and would like to commend the Mayor, Vice Mayor, other Council Members,
Town Manager, Town Attorney and staff for your efforts to acquire the former Vistoso golf property and establish it as a
nature reserve with a conservation easement in perpetuity.
As a golf course, the property was used by a small part of our community, but as a nature preserve it will be available to
everyone. And not just those with views of the property — many from other neighborhoods visit the trail frequently. It is
a safe place for families with small children to walk and bike safely away from traffic, and a smooth surface for seniors
and people with disabilities.
And how wonderful that the Conservation Fund will make the acquisition at no expense to the tax payers. What a fine
feather in the cap of all members of the Town Council. And since the property is already a natural desert, future
maintenance expenses will be low. Many people in Oro Valley have come here from around the country and are not
familiar with our desert habitat. It will provide educational opportunities for residents, visitors, and school children. This
will be an amenity that few if any other communities have, and sets Oro Valley apart from the rest.
It is time to draw this long project to a close. Acquire the property now. And if the seller will not go along by refusing a
second cash offers based on three fair market appraisals, acquire the property by eminent domain.
Your community stands behind you. Let's get this done!

After several agonizing years, it appears this nightmare is about over. We urge the Council to do whatever
is necessary to bring the negotiations to a swift and successful conclusion. We wholeheartedly support
the plans of The Conservation Fund to turn this property into a preserve that can be enjoyed by the
citizens of Oro Valley in perpetuity. Finally, we know that the Mayor, Council, City Attorney, Town
Manager, and many city employees have been working tirelessly to get this done. We thank them for their
efforts.
This green space is a beautiful parcel of land that is enjoyed by many people for recreation. As a green
space, it is inclusive of many people who wish to enjoy it, not just the people who are golfers. It has a
much broader appeal as a recreation area than it did as a golf course.
Thank you for your attention!

We write this as 20 -year owners of a condo on the former Vistoso golf course.
After way too many years of uncertainty, it appears our community will finally see the successful conclusion of the
negotiations to purchase the Vistoso property. We have always supported the plans of The Conservation Fund to turn
this property into a protected preserve, in perpetuity, that can be enjoyed by all those who live or visit Oro Valley.

Dear Mr Standish,
Please present my comments at the Council Meeting of Sept. 8, 2021 and put into the record. Thank
you!
I am extremely pleased that the Conservancy and the Town of Oro Valley are taking steps to
Preserve the Golf Course at Vistoso for perpetuity to be an open natural preserve. My choice to
move to Oro Valley 2 years ago, and not other places, was the natural environment that the Town
kept just that... Natural. It is a delight to walk and see natural vegetation and the reptiles, birds, deer,
javelinas, rabbits, and more, living amongst us. Please keep working as you all have so diligently
been doing to preserve Vistoso, this natural landscape, for all us now and into the future for Oro
Valley. We deserve to keep our community beautiful and a joy to live in!
Thank you

Dear Mr. Standish,
We support the Conservation Society's courageous efforts in negotiating with Rompsen to ensure that the former
Vistoso golf course is properly protected and managed solely and exclusively for conservation purposes and open space
in perpetuity.
Rompsen has effectively and absolutely abandoned this property for almost four years, creating health and safety
issues, including but not limited to, an abandoned concrete lake that is a dangerous breeding ground for insects and
mosquitoes, overgrown invasive plants causing future fire hazards, abandoned unsightly structures giving rise to
potential vandalism and much more.
We support the towns efforts to bring a swift successful conclusion and immediate resolution to the negotiations for the
purchase of the Vistoso property.
This has gone on long enough.
The time is now. It is the duty of this government, any government, to protect the health, welfare and safety of its
citizens.
Thank the Mayor, City Council, Town Manager, City Attorney, Town Manager and all of the hard working wonderful city
employees.

bring some closure to this long-term nightmare. All of us in Rancho Vistoso appreciate all you have done. The
permanent preservation of this beautiful space for recreation, hiking, biking and family use will be an asset to Oro Valley

But the purchase is not yet complete. We are finally to the point at which your support is crucial to bring this to an

Mr. Standish,
We have been proud residents of Oro Valley for the past 18 years and truly love it here. The
decline of the Romspen-owned golf course has been a blight on the town for the last three+ years
and, frankly, Romspen's previous failure to negotiate in good faith is very disconcerting. Please do
everything in your power to support the Conservancy's efforts to bring a much needed nature
preserve/public walking path to our town.
In just the past month alone I have seen five deer on many occasions, wildcats, many javelinas and
coyotes, and was told by a fellow walker that he and his wife had seen a female cougar and her
cub. It seems to me that these beautiful creatures within our very town boundaries should be
preserved at all costs. How many towns can claim to fully surround a nature preserve such as this?
And then to be able to walk among these animals in their natural state... priceless!

Since the closing of the golf course, the cart paths have been used by nearby residents for walking, running, riding

Defunct Vistoso Golf Course re Pending Decision
Mr. Standish,
Please forward this email to the Town Council prior to the September 8, 2021 Council Meeting and allow my comments
to be entered into the official meeting minutes.
Members of the Oro Valley Town Council, Mayor, Vice Mayor, Town Manager and Attorney and Town Staff:
We plan on attending the in-person town council meeting this Wednesday to personally take in the excitement of your
decision to support the plan to create a conservation easement in perpetuity out of the defunct Vistoso Golf Course.
You see, we are optimists. We want to bear witness to the hard work each of you have done in getting us to a decision
point. Indeed, it has been a long, hard road for our neighborhood to trudge through, but we have not wavered in our
resolve to see this vision become reality.
There is a lot of work yet to be done, but transferring ownership away from Romspen Vistoso, LLC, will allow us to build
the future we want for this land.
You may not see a large in-person audience at this week's meeting. Many people are away on vacations, snowbirds not
yet arrived, parents with kids back in school, etc. But don't mistake this for lack of interest. Yes, we are weary, we are a
bit beaten down by the process, and hanging by a thread for a positive outcome to codify our dream of ending this
nightmare.
We have been harsh in comments towards some of you who were reticent to take action towards conservation during
this process. I think it was a good dose of medicine as we are all aligned in our goals and actions today.
We want to thank you for mustering your courage to act and lead us towards a brighter future in Vistoso. I am grateful
for your continued hard work on creating what will undoubtedly become a template for other communities who are
struggling with the same issue of defunct golf courses.
In the end, when all if said and done, I believe you will be seen as conservation heroes, not only in Oro Valley, but to all
whom care for and crave a little open space near home to enjoy and interact with. It's what humans need. It's what
wildlife needs, too.
Thank you for caring enough to share the vision.

In the web site for the "The Mayor and Council - Oro Valley" the council's stated goal is to "...to provide high-quality
municipal services and responsible development..."
As long time residents of Oro Valley we have watched tremendous development. The proposal to preserve some of last
open green space in the village as opposed to adding more population density seems valid. If we relinquish this open
space to development we lose a glimpse of nature and opportunity to further heathy endeavors and fitness .
Some have said that "Beauty promotes good health". With cart path accessibility for all, we have a chance to provide a
beautiful alternative to bricks and mortar.
I appreciate your thoughtful consideration of my support for the preservation project.

It is a unique property in that there is an outdoor covered area that could be made into a musical venue as well. The golf
course is one of the joys we experience living in Oro Valley and I would love to see it kept in it's natural state. It would be
perfect if there could be two trails side by side: one for bikers and one for walkers. Many times walkers have earphones

Dear Mr. Standish:
I am a resident at the Stone Canyon Club in Oro Valley, AZ. Although I mostly used the facilities of our own course &
amenities it was great to take advantage of the Vistoso Golf course occasionally. One of the reasons for our selecting
the Oro Valley area was the less than congested area that is the Vistoso development. The rural feel of most of Oro
Valley is so much better than what has happened in so much of the Tucson area.
It was sad to see the closure of the Vistoso Golf Course. However, being able to having one of the only open spaces in
the Vistoso area has been wonderful. People use the space for whatever exercise they like to enjoy. It's great for
walking, walking dogs, bicycling, rollerblading, etc. Since the age group that makes up the people of the area is elderly,
it's hard to calculate the benefit afforded this group. There is also a younger generation being able to use it for their
families.
Another issue to consider is the safety concern of turning the streets into congested traffic roadways. There's already
too many cars that utilize this area. The feeling of peaceful tranquility of the pond on the old 8th hole allowed a calming
feeling of the country wash over you. Unfortunately the development on the corner of the street has taken away some
of that feeling. Please don't allow more development to make it into the continuing congestion of Oro Valley.
As I'm sure you are aware, once this little spot of heaven is gone, it can never be brought back.

To the Oro Valley Town Council,
Please enter my comments into the record and let them show that, as a owner and
resident of a condominium at , I fully support the efforts of
the council to purchase and preserve the defunct golf course.
I have written to the council on numerous occasions outlining the reasons that I believe
the property will much better serve the community as open space rather than additional
medium and high density residential. Besides offering a rare opportunity for the town's
residents to hike, bike, and roll (wheel chair accessible) in a beautiful natural location,
keeping the parcel undeveloped will reduce traffic, noise, light pollution, and require less
of our constantly diminishing water supply.
After two years of negotiations, it is time to close the deal or if needed use eminent
domain to secure the property.
Thank you for all the time and effort you have expended on this effort.

My wife and I fully support Town Council's and The Conservation Fund's efforts to
preserve the Vistoso property as open space. Like many other residents, we have
pledged personal financial support for TCF's acquisition of the 202 acres.
The partnership of literally thousands of residents, along with The Conservation Fund
and you, the Oro Valley Town Council, has brought us to this point. Achieving this goal
is within our power. Please take whatever action is needed to bring our efforts to a
successful conclusion.
The efforts to date by you - Town Council, and Town Staff, The Conservation Fund, and the
residents of Oro Valley to acquire and preserve the former Vistoso Golf course property as
natural open space in perpetuity are sincerely appreciated. PLEASE make the decision and take
whatever action(s) is necessary to bring all our efforts to positive resolution. Thank you.

We bought a home in Oro Valley in 2005, long before we began to spend more time there. We
still are now.
It was ideal then; on a great golf course, very quiet, with views and sunsets that we, frankly,
paid
extra for. In 16 years, the area is busier, but like others, we assumed the views wouldn't change.
Yes, golf courses close,
but the possibility of 2 -story condos a few feet off our deck was, quite honestly, maddening. We
felt that Oro Valley
had done a masterful plan 25 years ago in the draw of that quiet and serene land, and it was
about to go away.
These last 3 years have been anxious, with the thought that a late comer, Romspen, could just
remove it all.
They and all builders could easily see where land is zoned for development, but their business
model of cherry -picking non -buildable
land, the best land and putting up structures and roads on this prime area, removing the quiet
and views, and taking away from
what us long -timers have paid taxes on for decades; well, words like nefarious and
unscrupulous come to mind.
It can't have been easy for you all, but THANK YOU to the entire City Council and TCF for,
literally, holding your ground.
You listened to us and responded to us in what had to be a difficult legal process. I'm sure
others like Romspen will keep trying
at other such locales, but thank you again for solving this challenge, and telling them, "not this
golf course, not this City Council".
We and others for decades to come will enjoy one of the best 'inner city' Preserves that I have
ever seen.
Please enter our comments into the public record for the meeting on Sept 8.

As a cyclist, I very much support the Town's efforts to date and would very much like to see the Vistoso property
turned into a public park or public space of some sort.
The golf cart paths make excellent cycling and walking paths. The rest of the land makes an excellent nature preserve. I
very much look forward to having this space available to "play" in.

Dear Mr. Standish, I'd like to comment on the Preserve Vistoso issue coming before the council. I
have lived here for more than 30 years and have seen land gobbled up year after year. Let's take this
rare opportunity to save our precious and unique corner of the Sonoran Desert. This is what makes
our home in Oro Valley so special. Let's preserve this area while we can. We were in that area
recently and it truly is special. Thanks for allowing my voice to be heard.

Over a hundred years ago those who had the foresight to leave a section of New York natural and create Central Park
are still lauded. Although not even close to that scale, leaving a portion of our town untouched and natural will live
beyond all our life spans. I respectfully suggest we name the pathways in the open area after those town council
members who made it so!

I thank you in advance for all the work that the mayor and many others have put forth.
