EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
This item is to provide an update on recent Town Council direction regarding site improvements at Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve (VTNP).
BACKGROUND OR DETAILED INFORMATION:
On March 20, 2026, bids were opened regarding the VTNP Pond Project.
Below is a map of the Pond and Memorial Garden base bid, shown in red, and the parking lot with and trail connection bid alternate, shown in
orange. No additional project elements were included in this bid due to the practicality of budget affordability.
The total bid amount was $1,883,939, excluding contingency, which includes:
Base Bid (Pond + Memorial Garden): $1,769,972
Alternate Bid (Parking Lot + ADA Pathway Connection): $113,967
On April 8, 2026, Council approved moving forward with both the base bid and the alternate bid. Part of the approval was additional funding in
the amount of $461,399 to be taken from the Contingency Fund.
On May 6, 2026, Council directed staff to use the remaining $150,000 in this year’s site improvement budget, along with $50,000 from next
year’s $200,000 budget to install the irrigation in the pond area. Council also directed staff to utilize the $136,210 trail grant funds from Arizona
State Parks for the concrete pathway around the pond.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Base Bid (Pond + Memorial Garden) $1,769,972
Alternate Bid (Parking Lot + ADA Pathway Connection) $113,967
Irrigation $200,000
Pathway $136,210 + any remaining funds needed
