2. COMMISSIONER INTERESTS/STRENGTHS RELATING TO HPC
WORK PLAN - DISCUSSION & POSSIBLE ACTION
04/01/13 Minutes, Historic Preservation Commission 1
Chair Guyer pointed out that Item 6 on the Work Plan relates to restoration of the Steam
Pump Ranch Pump House. Recreation Manager Lynanne Dellerman commented that
the State Preservation office has conveyed the concern that restoring the pump house
would cause the remaining fabric to be lost. The State Preservation office felt that they
had insufficient detail to base an accurate reconstruction. Ms. Dellerman discussed
putting a cover over it and creating a miniature.
The following items were discussed:
Town Funds or a combination of funds would help with preservation. Restoration
could be a future project.
Fundraising is critical, but costs need to be determined.
MOTION: A motion was made by Commissioner Hannon and seconded by Vice Chair
Strandskov that the Town move forward on a bid for a cover for the preservation of the
Steam Pump site.
MOTION carried, 4-0
The following discussion occurred relating to Work Plan Item 10 regarding scanned
documents:
The group will move forward on this item.
Documents were scanned on a library archive system, but they are not yet available
to the public, which is a goal.
The Oro Valley Historical Society is also working on this project. Ms. Dellerman will
check on their progress.
Chair Guyer acknowledged Oro Valley Historical Society Member Lois Nagy.
Resident Lois Nagy clarified that the software used for the scanned documents is "Past
Perfect". The Oro Valley Historical Society has the software and the Steam Pump
Ranch collection was scanned and copies of the documents and photos are in archival
folders in the Town Clerk's office. The photographs have few captions and it is difficult
to identify people in the pictures.
Commissioner Hannon stated that the documents and pictures need to be converted
into a common format such as jpg. Ms. Dellerman will look into this issue.
Chair Guyer stated that Work Plan Item 1 will be problematic until the commission is at
full membership. Item 4 may be on a future agenda.
