Chair Pullara called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. ROLL CALL PRESENT: Valerie Pullara, Chair Ellen Guyer, Vice Chair Marilyn Lane, Member(Exited at 5:52 p.m.) Lois Nagy, Member Dean Strandskov, Member EXCUSED: Ed Hannon, Member STAFF PRESENT: Ainsley Legner, Parks Recreation Library & Cultural Resources Director Lynanne Dellerman, Recreation Manager CALL TO THE AUDIENCE 1. REVIEW AND/OR APPROVAL OF THE NOVEMBER 5, 2012 REGULAR SESSION MINUTES MOTION: A motion was made by Member Nagy and seconded by Member Lane to approve the November 5, 2012 minutes as written. MOTION carried, 5-0 2. ELECTION OF ORO VALLEY HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION CHAIR AND VICE CHAIR - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE 12/03/12 Minutes, Historic Preservation Commission 1 MOTION: A motion was made by Member Nagy and seconded by Member Lane to nominate Ellen Guyer as Chair of the Historic Preservation Commission. MOTION carried, 5-0 MOTION: A motion was made by Vice Chair Guyer and seconded by Member Lane to nominate Dean Strandskov as Vice-Chair of the Historic Preservation Commission. MOTION carried, 5-0 3. UPDATE FROM HONEYBEE VILLAGE SITE STEWARD(S) - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION Tucson Region Coordinator for the Site Steward Program Robin Rutherford provided an update on Honeybee Village. Discussion followed regarding: - It is being surrounded by new development. - Pima County has put up new signage. There will be an additional 6-7 new stewards for the site. There were tire tracks at the site which may indicate ATV activity. - Concerns include: - Gap in the wall which may allow ATV entry. - Lack of signage about off-leash dogs. - Trees in boxes on the site. Chair Pullara pointed out that there may be a misunderstanding about the use of the property by the new neighboring subdivision. 4. PUSCH RANCH HOUSE DISPLAY OPTIONS - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION Ms. Legner requested discussion regarding how the group envisions using the 1870s ranch house. Discussion followed regarding: - Period items should be in the house. - Bedroom furniture from the Pusch House downtown could be used. The Master Plan specifies the house for"display areas". - Items to be used from the local museum. Chair Pullara indicated that it is the consensus that everyone is interested in exploring this. The group will need to see what is available. 12/03/12 Minutes, Historic Preservation Commission 2 Commissioner Nagy added that furniture would require the tours to be revamped because of space issues. Vice Chair Guyer will work on this Work Plan Item 5 in coordination with Commissioner Lane. 5. APPROVAL OF THE TOWN'S DRAFT CULTURAL RESOURCES INVENTORY PHASE II: PRESERVATION PLAN - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION Chair Pullara offered to work as a volunteer with anyone the new Chair appoints to write this document. 6. STEAM PUMP RANCH - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION A. NATIONAL SOCIETY DAUGHTERS OF COLONIAL WARS INC DONATION PRESENTATION Chair Pullara and Commissioner Strandskov provided a presentation for the group and they were then presented with a $650 check. Ms. Dellerman stated that there will be a presentation by the National Society Daughters of Colonial Wars at the January 16, 2013 Town Council meeting. Ms. Legner is meeting with Roxy Johnson from the Daughters of American Revolution and the Town's grant writer this week about grant opportunities. B. INVENTORY OF BUNK HOUSES Ms. Legner met with the Town's Safety Risk Manager and he provided a process and protocol for cleaning the bunk houses. Commissioner Nagy suggested removing items a little at a time and sorting and cleaning on the Proctor Lieber house porch. Items need to be photographed and cataloged. C. RANCH HOUSE TOURS 12/03/12 Minutes, Historic Preservation Commission 3 Ms. Dellerman reported that the tours will be on the second Saturdays of each month from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. These will be advertised and there may be guest speakers. Ms. Legner added that past tours had low attendance. Individual group tours have been successful. D. ENTRY GATES ON ORACLE ROAD Ms. Legner reported that a second application for consideration of an entry treatment for the gated area has been sent to the Arizona Department of Transportation and it is under review. 7. HPC WORK PLAN UPDATE ON ITEMS ASSIGNED - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION No report. 8. SCHEDULING NEXT HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION MEETING TENTATIVELY FOR MONDAY, JANUARY 7, 2013 TO BEGIN AT 5:00 P.M. - DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION The next meeting is scheduled for January 7, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. 9. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS (The Historic Preservation Commission may bring forth general topics for future meeting agendas. Discussion must be limited to information and clarification). The February 4, 2013 meeting date may be adjusted since it will be the new Parks & Recreation Director's first day. Ms. Dellerman will be the staff liaison for that meeting. ANNOUNCEMENTS Ms. Legner thanked Lois Nagy and Valerie Pullara for their service on the commission since it is their last meeting.
