PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD'S INVOLVEMENT WITH USER GROUPS—DISCUSSION The following items were discussed by the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB) regarding PRAB's involvement with User Groups. • Arrange a meeting with all groups in order to get everyone involved. • Identify groups and needs • Need to recruit people for Friends of the Parks • Need to get developers and citizen leaders involved • Advertise on Coyote Run to reach elderly/disabled • Establish a Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Regular Session Meeting Parks & Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder agreed to provide contact information from each user groups for PRAB Members. Ms. Reeder indicated that PRAB could have a booth at the Oro Valley Arts in the Parks Celebration to be held October 29—30, 2006 to talk about the Naranja Town Site. ADJOURNMENT Chair Tom Honebrink adjourned the Tuesday, April 11, 2006 Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Study Session Meeting at 6:50 p.m. with no objections. APPROVAL OF TUESDAY,MARCH 14,2006 REGULAR SESSION MINUTES Vice Chair Dennis Ottley made a MOTION to APPROVE the Tuesday, March 14, 2006, Regular Session Minutes, as presented. Board Member Robert Evans SECONDED the Motion.Motion carried 6-0. CALL TO AUDIENCE Chair Tom Honebrink opened the Call to the Audience. Ms. Jacqueline Roma, 591 West Kidd Place,requested that the Town consider installing a bocce ball in one of Town Parks. The closes bocce ball court is located on the eastside of Tucson. Chair Honebrink closed the Call to the Audience. 2. PARKS&RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD LIAISON COUNCIL MEMBER REPORT Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Liaison Council Member/Vice Mayor Terry Parish was not present-no report. 4/11/06 Minutes,Parks&Recreation Advisory Board 3. PRESENTATION ON TENNIS BY TENNIS INSTRUCTOR GEORGE PENSKY— DISCUSSION Tennis Instructor George Pensky emphasized an immense need for tennis courts in Oro Valley. Mr. Pensky commented the Parks & Recreation is working miracles because the Town only has one tennis court. Mr. Pensky also requested that practice walls be considered when building future tennis courts/facilities in Oro Valley. 4. GREATER ORO VALLEY ARTS COUNCIL(GOVAC) PRESENTATION BY BOARD OF DIRECTORS,PRESIDENT SATISH HIREMATH AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CARMEN FERIEND—DISCUSSION Greater Oro Valley Arts Council (GOVAC) Board of Directors President Satish Hiremath pledged his support to the Parks & Recreation Advisory Board (PRAB). Dr. Hiremath indicated he wanted PRAB and GOVAC to collaborate. In response to the PRAB's questions, Dr. Hiremath suggested PRAB use GOVAC for assistance as needed. 5. STATUS REPORT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF A DRAFT TOWN POLICY REGARDING DONATIONS TO THE TOWN AND AUTHORIZATION OF CORPORATE NAMING OPPORTUNITIES — DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION Parks & Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder reported that the Town has no current "Branding" policy. Ms. Reeder explained three approaches: Generalized — Naming/Renaming of a given name, Generalized Giving, and Naming/Branding. The Parks & Recreation Advisory Board requested this item be placed on the next Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Regular Session for more discussion. 6. VOLUNTEER PARK MONITORS FOR TOWN PARKS—DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION Parks &Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder explained the current staffing levels. Ms. Reeder requested ideas or suggestions from PRAB. Vice Chair Dennis Ottley suggested that the park monitors should be paid staff and not volunteers. Board Member Margot Hurst suggested having volunteers observe and report to paid monitors. Ms. Reeder suggested talking to Police Chief Daniel Sharp. 2 4/11/06 Minutes,Parks&Recreation Advisory Board 7. PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD'S INVOLVEMENT WITH USERS GROUPS -DISCUSSION AND POSSIBLE ACTION PRAB requested the Parks&Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder follow up with the Greater Oro Valley Arts Council(GOVAC)to have an informational booth at the Independence Day Celebration at the Canada del Riverfront Park about the trail at the Naranja Town Site. 8. STATUS REPORT ON THE NARANJA TOWN SITE TRAILS PLAN— DISCUSSION Parks &Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder gave an update the Naranja Town Site Trail Plan: ■ Community work day ■ Trail Development status ■ Ribbon Cutting ■ Development of Signage ■ Garbage cans, pooper scoopers are installed 9. BOARD MEMBER REPORTS- ATTENDANCE AT OTHER TOWN MEETINGS INCLUDING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT, FINANCE AND BOND COMMITTEE, DEVELOPMENT REVIEW BOARD, HISTORICAL PRESERVATION COMMISSION, PLANNING COMMISSION AND TOWN COUNCIL Chair Tom Honebrink had no report on Board of Adjustment. Board Member Robert Evans had no report on the Development Review Board. Board Member Ray Caryl reported on Library parking addition and commercial areas at Honeybee Village. Board Member Margot Hurst had no report on Historical Preservation Commission. Board Member Laura Clark had no report on the Finance and Bond Committee 10. PARKS &RECREATION ADMINISTRATOR'S REPORT Parks&Recreation Administrator Ainsley Reeder reported that Logan's Crossing is open. Ms. Reeder also reported that the Parks&Recreation Division received a bill from Amphitheater School District for 2006 Summer Fun Camp increased 2,000%. The Division is contacting Amphi to discuss the increase. A Bocci Ball Court was put into the 2006-2007 budget for$6,000. 3 4/11/06 Minutes,Parks&Recreation Advisory Board 11. PARKS&RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD CHAIR REPORT Chair Tom Honebrink requested that the Parks&Recreation Advisory Board to consider giving an Parks Award 12. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS • Set schedule for the year • Status report on the development of a draft town policy regarding donations to the town and authorization of corporate naming opportunities—discussion and possible action 13. SCHEDULING NEXT PARKS & RECREATION ADVISORY BOARD MEETING The next Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Regular Session is scheduled for Tuesday, May 2,2006 at or after 6:30 p.m. Location to be determined. 14. ADJOURNMENT Chair Tom Honebrink adjourned the Tuesday, April 11, 2006 Parks &Recreation Advisory Board Regular Session Meeting at 8:50 p.m. with no objections.
